Edip Bağdatlı

Edip Bağdatlı was born in Antakya in 1950. He started making artworks of iron with his father, Tahir Bağdatlı. After finishing primary school, he entered the Art Institution in 1964 to learn his father′s profession. However, he liked music very much, and quit art school and went to Istanbul in 1969 to work with a famous orchestra for 2 years.  Later he returned to making iron art. When he visited Germany, he saw decorative iron works and developed an interest in them. For the past 37 years, he has been an iron worker in his own workshop in Antakya.  He still warms iron with coal in a forge and shapes it with his skilled hands in the traditional way. After designing and producing gates, windows and other iron accessories, he paints and gilds them.
