Esat Uluumay

Esat Uluumay has worked constantly to preserve and record the traditions of his native Bursa. He has encouraged the work of the Bursa Folklore Society, collecting local songs and dances and organizing performances in Turkey and abroad. He has helped sponsor the preservation of the enchanting village of Cumalıkızık outside Bursa, with its traditional houses, mosques and cafe. He has also recognized the rich heritage of Turkey′s regional dress and has steadily collected costumes from Bursa and its surroundings. In his museum, some 400 costumes are exhibited, mounted on figures and fully accessorized, so as to illustrate weaving, embroidery, knitting and lace-making techniques as well as the jeweler’s craft.
