Firdevs Çalkanoğlu was born in Istanbul in 1978. She graduated from the Faculty of Business Administration at Dumlupınar University. In 2003, she started learning marbling art (Ebru) from Ayla Makas at the Caferağa Medresesi. She continued learning marbling from Fuat Başar and Yılmaz Eneş. In 2009, Çalkanoğlu obtained her professional license in marbling art from Fuat Başar. In 2009, she won third prize in the marbling competition, which was organized by the Turkish General Directorate for Foundations, which belongs to the Prime Ministry. In the same year, she received an award of merit in the 15th State Turkish Decorative Arts Ebru Competition, which was organized by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Besides marbling, Çalkanoğlu learned calligraphy from Fuat Başar. Currently, she continues to work at her workshop in Fatih in Istanbul.
