Mehmet Hamdi Eyüpoğlu was born in Istanbul in 1939. He finished St. Joseph middle school and Kabataş High School for Boys. Mehmet made block printing and painting for the first time when he helped to prepare a block printing exhibition at the Maya Gallery. In 1960, he married a French woman and moved to Canada. In 1962, Mehmet won a scholarship from New Jersey Fairleigh Dickinson University and moved to United States. He held block printing exhibitions of his father Bedri Rahmi and mother Eren Eyüpoğlu in Philadelphia, California, Chicago and New Jersey. In 1966 Mehmet graduated from the department of marketing and statistics and went back to Turkey. He worked at Roche and Nasaş as a marketing researcher between 1969 and 1975. In 1976 Mehmet lost his father Bedri Rahmi and took over his father’s profession. In the same year Mehmet prepared a block printing exhibition. In 1977 he developed new techniques to carve blocks. In the first time Mehmet carved a block which belonged to Eren Eyüpoğlu. Between 1977 and 1992 he had numerous exhibitions in Turkey (Antalya, İçel, Adana, Izmir, Bursa, Muğla and Trabzon) and aboard. Mehmet Hamdi Eyüpoğlu continues to work at his own workshop in Istanbul. |
