Hülya Önal was born in Germany in 1971. In 1991, she learned ceramic designs at the Iznik Ceramic Workshop and the Kütahya Ceramic Factory in Kütahya. In 1992, she worked on the restoration projects: Fındıkzade Bahçi Mahmut Mosque and the Sani Konukoğlu Yalısı (mansion) in Beykoz. In 1993, she founded her own ceramic workshop, “Çintemani”. In 1994, she graduated from the Department of Turkish Handicrafts, Ceramic Branch in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University. Önal worked as a designer in the Marmara Ceramic Factory in 1995. She taught at a Vocational School of Dumlupınar University between 1995 and 1996. She had her solo exhibitions in Adana, Ankara, Mersin and Osmaniye. In 1999, Önal received first prize in the 10th Competition of State Turkish Decorative Arts, which was organized by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Since 2002, she has taught at the Osmaniye Yahya Mazlum Public Education Center. In 2007, with the collaboration of the Osmaniye Governorship, Önal taught classes within the project of reducing social risk.
