Hüsamettin Yivlik was born in Istanbul in 1947. Since his childhood, he has been living in the environment of Ottoman Art in Sultanahmet, Istanbul. After finishing high school, he started working at the Medical History Museum of Istanbul University. While working at the museum, he acquired skills in basic carpentry, wood carving, and decoupage. In 1986 Yivlik retired from the museum and founded the Seljuk Workshop, where he continued the wood carving until 1985. After working in different sectors, Yivlik started concentrating on making his art works in 1995. He also began making inlaid works. He developed several original techniques and tools, and studied traditional Ottoman illumination art (Tezhip) and Ottoman gilding methods. Yivlik currently continues his work in Istanbul.
