Hüseyin Azmi Baykal was born in Istanbul in 1934. He began working at the workshop of silversmith, Ziya Oygan. In 1960, he opened his own workshop and started to make products with his designs. He composes his designs in the traditional Turkish forms and makes silver products with inlaid techniques. In 1984, he founded his company “Baykal Gümüş El Sanatları Limited Şirketi” with his son, Sefa Baykal. In 1985, he participated in a group exhibition, “Traditional Turkish Decorative Art”, with his silver objects at Destek Sanat Gallery. (7 October-9 November 1985). He also participated in the Istanbul Jewelry, Accessories, Watches and Silver Goods Fair in 1988, 1989 and 1990. He was interviewed by TV channels, such as TRT, and radio, newspapers and art magazines. His works were sent to the President of Turkey, the Queen of England, the President of United States of America, the King of Saudi Arabia, the Emperor of Japan, the State Museum of Turkmenistan, the General Secretary of NATO, Chicago de Pool University and many private collections in Turkey and abroad. He gave many conferences as well. |
