Prof. Dr. Hüsrev Subaşı was born in Niksar in 1953. He graduated from the Faculty of Theology at Marmara University in 1976, and from the Faculty of Literature at Istanbul University in 1977. During working as an assistant at the Faculty of Theology, he completed his doctoral degree in Turkish and Islamic Arts at Istanbul University in 1984. He received the title of Associate Professor in 1990 and the title of Professor in 1997. When he was a student at university, Subaşı learned calligraphy from calligrapher Hamid Aytaç. Between 1987 and 1988, Subaşı researched on the Trace of Turkish Calligraphers in Egypt. He has given calligraphy class at the Faculty of Theology of Marmara University. Subaşı has participated in many national and international conferences on Turkish and Islamic Arts, and has published many articles and books. He has had many exhibitions with his wife, who is an ebru artist, in Turkey and abroad including Cairo (1987), Dubai (1990, 2004, 2005, 2006), Sharjah (2002), Tunis (1994), Jiddah (1995, 2001) and Berlin (1999). Subaşı has also made more than 10 calligraphies for several mosques. Currently, he continues to teach at Marmara University.
