Mehmet Özuslu was born in 1927. He began working as an apprentice beside a craftsman and making Yemeni shoes when he was 6 - 7 years old. Yemeni is a pair of traditional Turkish shoes. They are totally sewn by hands. To make Yemeni shoes, it is necessary for craftsman not only to have special skills but also knowledge about the selection of leather and the sewing. Özuslu continues his work at his workshop and trains young craftsmen. |
