Musa Başaran

Musa Kazım Başaran was born in Konya, Çumra in 1947. When he was a child, his family and neighbors were weaving kilims and carpets. After graduating from the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul University in 1970, he worked at several multinational companies as a cost controller. Since 1991, besides being an economist, Başaran has been involved in kilim weaving and its production. He has woven over 100 wool and silk kilims by himself. He also learned how to make natural dye materials for his weaving. He has more than 40 different color formulations. Weaving is very satisfying, soothing and restful for him. In addition to kilim weaving, he designs all kilims, which are produced at his studio. Some of his models are woven by experienced Anatolian weavers. In Turkey and abroad, Başaran has had many several solo exhibitions, and participated in numerous group exhibitions and workshops including Dublin Art and Action Festival (2007), Muscat Art Festival (2010), in which he won an award; and Puerto Rico Ferinart Festival (2012), in which he received an award.
