Nilgün Gencer was born in Istanbul. She learned miniature art from Azade Akar, Melek Antel, Cahide Keskiner and Ülker Erke at the Prof. Süheyl Ünver’s Traditional Turkish Arts Classes, which belongs to the Faculty of Medicine at Istanbul University between 1971 and 1979. In 1976, Gencer obtained her professional license in the Department of Turkish Decorative Arts, which belongs to the Turkish Ministry of Education. Between 1989 and 1991, she introduced and taught Turkish decorative and miniature arts in Antalya. In 1992, she received honorable certificate in the Traditional Turkish Arts Class, which belongs to the Faculty of Medicine at Istanbul University. Gencer has had many solo exhibitions and has participated in more than 37 group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Her miniature was printed out as a post cards by the TAP foundation. Her works can be seen in the Şişli Atatürk Museum, Istanbul Mathematic Research Institute, Basın Museum, and Samsun Çarşamba Museum in Turkey, and many private collections in Germany and the US. Currently, Gencer continues to work in Istanbul.
