Orhan Dağlı was born in Istanbul in 1971. He graduated from the Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University in 1997. In the Faculty, he learned illumination from Tahsin Aykutalp; calligraphy, especially nesta’lik, divani, celi divani and ev rık’a scripts from Prof. Ali Aplarslan; miniatures from Yakup Cem; decorative arts from Kaya Üçer; and marbling art from Hikmet Barutçugil. Dağlı obtained his professional license in sülüs and nesih scripts from Hüseyin Kutlu (2001); in illumination art from Tahsin Aykutalp (2001); and in nesta’lik, divani and celi divani scripts from Prof. Ali Alparslan (2002). Dağlı won first prize in the category of celi ta’lik in the IRCICA International Calligraphy Competition in 2004. He published “Hasbahçe Kırk Hadis” (Istanbul: Zaman Publication, 2008). Dağlı has participated in more than 40 group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. His illumination, miniature and calligraphy works can be seen in many national and international collections. Since 2007, Dağlı has worked at his workshop. He also teaches calligraphy at İSMEK and the Istanbul Art Design Center.
