Ahmet Zeki Yavaş was born in Rize in 1966. In 1977 he learned nesih writing from Hamit Aytaç, a calligrapher. Yavaş also learned sülüs and celi sülüs writings from master-calligraphers Mustafa Necati and Osman Özçay. Yavaş had his first solo exhibition at the Beyoğlu Municipality Art Gallery in 1997. Since then he has had many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions. His works can be seen in many private collections and museums in Turkey and abroad. Yavaş has prepared tuğra (calligraphic monogram or signature) for many head of states. He is the founder and director of the Classic Turkish Arts Foundation. Yavaş currently continues his work in Istanbul.
