Assistant Prof. Bilal Sezer was born in Ödemiş, Izmir in 1969. After graduating from the Faculty of Theology at Atatürk University in 1994, he continued his master′s degree at the same university. In 1995 he started working as a research assistant at the Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts in 1995. In 2004 Sezer completed his doctoral degree in proficiency in arts at the Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Atatürk University. In 2006 Sezer was appointed to the Faculty of Fine Arts at Atatürk University as an Assistant Professor.
Sezer learned calligraphy and received his professional license in sülüs and nesih scripts from renowned calligrapher Hasan Çelebi in 2000. In the next year, Sezer received mention award in the international calligraphy competition, which was organized by IRCICA. Sezer has had two solo exhibitions in Izmir and Erzurum; and he has participated in numerous national and international group exhibitions in Turkey. He has published many articles on calligraphy.
