İ. Sedat Altınöz was born in Sakarya in 1957. After finishing high school in Sakarya, he started learning kemançe from Emin Ogan at Üsküdar Musiki Cemiyeti. In 1980 Altınöz started working as a classical kemançe player at the Istanbul Municipality Conservatory of Turkish Music. In 1985 he worked in the Izmir State Classical Turkish Music Choir, belongs to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The same year he started teaching at the Ege University Turkish Music State Conservatory. In 1986 Altınöz began performing classical kemençe for the Izmir Radio and gave numerous concerts in Turkey and abroad.
In 2002, Altınöz participated in the Marbling (Ebru) congress, which was held at the CRR, where he gave a memorial concert playing a chant, which was composed by Mustafa Düzgünman. In 2003 Altınöz gave a memorial concert again and played Musfata Düzgünman′s work with Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism Izmir State Choir. He received a professional license of marbling art from Sabri Mandıracı, who was a student of Düzgünman. In 2004 Altınöz also received a certificate from Hüseyin Yalçınkaya. Altınöz has held his solo exhibitions in Turkey, Holland and Italy. He currently lives and works in Izmir.
