Ümit Kara was born in the district of Besni in Adıyaman in 1952. He finished his primary and middle school education in Mersin. After finishing Mersin teacher′s school, he entered Ankara Gazi educational institution and graduated in 1972. He worked at Adana Düziçi teacher’s school (1972-1974), Ankara Atatürk Highschool (1974-82) and Ankara Çankaya Highschool (1982-1985). He served as a painting tutor at the Department of Fine Arts in Ankara University. He retired from University and has continued works at his own workshop. For 30 years he has engraved Selçuk motifs on wooden works and made Turkish furniture and exhibited them in Ankara and Istanbul. Some of his greatest works are the mihrap and minber in Ankara Haci Dursun Erdemir Mosque. He designed them with Seljuk motifs and they are engraved on walnut tree. |
