Zeki Avcıoğlu was born in Söke in 1934 and finished primary school. When he was 7 years old, he started to make leather folding boots "Körüklü Söke Çizmesi", which was his father′s business. Körüklü Söke boots is the special dress style to Söke region. It is totally made of natural materials. To make a pair of boots, he uses calf skin for its surface and goat skin for lining. Calf skin is also used for the sole and it is pegged down on the sole. Avcıoğlu has participated in the Handicrafts Fairs which were held by Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. He continues to make leather folding boots with his nephew Mustafa at their workshop in Söke and looks for the way to pass this traditional boots to the next generations. |
