Zeynep Çardar Kaleli was born in Istanbul in 1969. She graduated from the Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dokuz Eylül University. She completed her master’s degree in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Marmara University. She learned marbling (Ebru) art, illumination (Tezhip) art and calligraphy from Prof. Dr. Çiçek Derman, Prof. Uğur Derman, Assistant Prof. İnci Ayan Birol, Ayşe Üstün, Semih İrteş, and Alpaslan Babaoğlu. Since 2000, she has taught at the Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Sakarya University. Since 1999, Kaleli has had many solo exhibitions, and has participated in various conferences and numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. In 2008, she had her solo exhibitions “Tradition and Future with Turkish Art” in the Lake Montclair Center (Virginia) and “Examples from Turkish Art” in the Chinn Park Regional Library in the US. She has served as a commissioner in the Library of Musee des Tissues in Lyon for 8 years. Currently, she continues to teach at Sakarya University.
