Alev Ermiş Mavitan was born in Istanbul in 1957. After graduating from the Marketing Department at Boğaziçi University in 1979, she entered the Department of Painting, Sculpture, and Decorative Arts at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, and graduated from the workshops of Prof. Neşet Günal and Prof. Neşe Erdok in 1985. From 1999 to 2002, Mavitan served as a design tutor at the Department of Stage Decoration and Costumes in the Faculty of Fine Arts of Mimar Sinan University.
She has had many solo exhibitions, and participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs. In 1984, Mavitan received a Pamukbank Incentive Award at a group exhibition, celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. The following year, she won a mention award in the "Young Artists" students′ competition. Since 1985, she has been teaching painting. Currently, Mavitan continues painting and teaching in Istanbul.
