Banu Bal

Banu Bal studied ceramics and graduated from the Faculty of Fine Art at Hacettepe University in 2003. She completed her master’s degree in 2009 at the University for the Creative Arts. Bal has focused on working with Silk Screen Printing techniques on Translucence Paper Clay Porcelain. She uses objects and images to evoke memories of particular subjects, and old articles and advertisements. She uses a combination of slip-casting and hand building techniques with silk screen and transfer printing, adding images on the surface for vivid details. By means of combining contemporary ceramics with newsprint on paper- clay porcelain; Bal aims to capture pieces of history within her creations in a way that will engage her audience in a different approach to how one would generally consume news. Her intent is not to document history in detail, but to preserve small narratives for people to enjoy ponder, and appreciate.
