Burçak Konukman was born in Ankara in 1984. He graduated from Anadolu University. He currently studies Cultural Management at Bilgi University. He is a contemporary artist working with video installations, live performances and site specific interventions. His approach is self-reflective and performative, thinking globally and acting locally.
Konukman is the founder and producer of a weekly radio show called “Timeless Contemporary art conversations” on Açik Radio, 94.9. He is one of the guest editors of the Berlin-based organization "Monday news – Newsletter," co-founder of the Maumau Art Residency in Istanbul, and member of "Artikişler Art Collective" and Koza Visual Culture and Arts Association. Konukman is director of the Germany-based organization International Performance Association (IPA) Istanbul and the 2012 and 2013 editions of its Platform for Young Performance Artists Festival 2012 and 2013 editions.
He has participated in many international group exhibitions such as 2nd Sinop Biennial (2006), Sinopale (2008), European Performance Art Festival (2011), Destruction (2011), Torino Performance Art Festival (2012), 1st International Performance Festival Noseland in Switzerland (2012), and IPA Summer Camp Platform for Young Performance Artists in Berlin (2011) and in Istanbul (2012). From 2008-2010, Konukman worked as an assistant at the Visual Arts Directorate for the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency. In 2013, he was an artist in residence in Vienna organized by KulturKontakt Austria. Konukman is one of the residence artists at the Borusan Art Center since 2010.
