Erdinç Bakla was born in Erzurum in 1939. He was encouraged in his artistic interest by Şadiye Erdölen. In 1958, Bakla entered the Istanbul Applied School of Fine Arts. Between 1958 and 1962, he studied arts under Hakkı İzzet and Jan Grove. Between 1960 and 1962, he worked as an apprentice in production and design at the Krautheim Porcelain Factory in Selb, Germany. In 1961, he also worked in Sakızlı Zafer’s workshop to learn traditional Çanakkale Ceramics. After graduating in 1962, Bakla began teaching at his alma mater and served as an assistant to Hakkı İzzet, Ian Grove, Ralph Bush and Anthon Lehinden. Between 1971 and 1976, Bakla served as Head of the Ceramics Department at the Istanbul Applied School of Fine Arts. In 1985, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Marmara University. In the following year, he obtained professorship at Marmara University. Between 1988 and 1993, Bakla served as a Head of the Ceramics Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Marmara University. In 1990, he became a founding member of the Visual Arts Foundation and served as the director between 1990 and 1996. In the following year, Bakla retired from Marmara University. Between 1999 and 2002, he served as a design counselor at the Kutahya Porcelain. Bakla has had many solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. He has won numerous awards in many national and international ceramics and sculpture competitions. Bakla has given numerous lectures and conferences on ceramics and sculptures.
