Ergün Başar was born in Kırklareli in 1954. Between 1973 and 1974, he drew charcoal pictures in Istanbul Archaeology Museum. He also worked on design under Prof. İlhan Eralp, Chairman of Anatomy Branch, in the Faculty of Medicine at Istanbul University. In 1975, Başar participated in Prof. İsmail Tunalı’s seminars, "Art philosophy", in the Faculty of Philosophy at Istanbul University. In 1977 and 1978, he participated in the State Painting and Sculpture Exhibition with his pictures. Başar graduated from the Painting Department at the State Academy of Fine Arts in 1979. He also obtained "Engraving Certificate" from the engraving workshop of Prof. Sabri Berkel. Başar was the assistant of Prof. Sabri Berkel until his death in 1993. Ergün made ceramics at his workshop in 1980-1989. Between 1992 and 1995, he researched on arts in England, Holland and France. In 1989 - 95, he worked on artistic mosaics. Başar has had many solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad.
