Felekşan Onar was born in 1966 in Ankara. She spent her early years in Söke, Aydın and later attended what was then called American Collegiate Institute for Girls in Izmir and graduated in 1984. She completed her undergraduate degree in economics and music at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. She started off her career as a banker and continued working in the textile apparel industry for 15 years. Onar contributed to social economical causes through working in organisations such as TUSİAD, KAGİDER throughout this period. After she completed OPM at Harvard University in 2003, Onar moved away from the business arena and started working with glass-something that has fascinated her since her childhood. Primarily, she started off in a private atelier and later on received her formal education in glass at Glass Furnace, Istanbul. She initiated her own atelier, Fy-Shan Glass Studio, in 2003. Onar continues working out of her atelier in Kemerburgaz, Istanbul.
