Fulya Erdemci was born in 1962. She was the director of the International Istanbul Biennial (1994–2000); the director of Proje4L –Museum of Contemporary Art, Istanbul (2003–2004); and a temporary exhibitions curator at Istanbul Modern (2004–2005). Erdemci taught at Bilkent University in Ankara (1994–1995); Marmara University in Istanbul (1998); and Bilgi University in Istanbul (2000–2007). Erdemci has curated exhibitions including “İskorpit”, Berlin / Karlsruhe (1998) (co-curated with Rene Block), “Regrets, Reveries, Changing Skies”, Istanbul (2001), “Istanbul Pedestrian Exhibitions I: Personal Geographies and Global Maps”, Istanbul (2002), “Between the Waterfronts”, Rotterdam (2002) (co-curated with Ron Mandos), “the 25th São Paulo Biennial, Citades/Cities, Istanbul section”, Sao Paulo (2002), and “Where?/Here?”, Saitama (2003) (co-curated with Emre Baykal, Vasıf Kortun and Yuji Maeyama). She has also organized “Conflict”, Istanbul (2003) and “Making of Istanbul Modern” Istanbul (2004). Together with Emre Baykal and Arzu Yayıntaş, she curated Istanbul Pedestrian Exhibitions 2: Tunel — Karaköy (2005).
Erdemci was a member of the curatorial team for the Second Moscow Biennial of Contemporary Art in Moscow in 2007. Her other curatorial projects include: “Wandering Lines: Towards a New Culture of Space” (co-curated with Danae Mossman), “5th Scape Biennial of Art in Public Space”, Christchurch (2008); and “Istanbul Pedestrian Exhibitions”, a series of public art exhibitions realized in two editions, Istanbul (2002 and 2005). Currently, Erdemci works as the director at SKOR, Foundation for Art and Public Space in Amsterdam. She curated the Turkish pavilion in the upcoming 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennial, which will be held in November 2011. Erdemci curated the 13th Istanbul Biennial exhibition titled "Mom, am I barbarian?" at the Antrepo 3, Galata Greek Primary School, ARTER, SALT Beyoğlu and 5533 in Istanbul in 2013.
