Füsun Kavalcı was born in Illinois in 1963. After finishing high school education in Ankara, she graduated from the Ceramic Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Hacettepe University in 1989. In 1988, she founded her workshop in Ankara. She also worked at another workshop in Avanos. Kavalcı completed her master’s degree at her alma mater in 1995. In 1994, she started working as an assistant at her alma mater. In the same year, she worked at the workshop of Gioela Suardi in Italy. Between 2000 and 2002, Kavalcı studied at the Department of Art History and Department of Fine Arts of George Washington University in Washington D.C. She also worked at Corcoran Art and Design School. In 2004, she completed her doctoral degree in art. Kavalcı has had many solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. She has received many awards including the İhsan Doğramacı “merit bonus” prize (1989), the 55th State Painting and Sculpture exhibition “award of merit” prize (1994), and the 56th State Painting and Sculpture exhibition “award of merit” prize (1995). Currently, Kavalcı continues to teach at Hacettepe University.
