Yılmaz Aysan was born in 1953. He graduated from the Architecture Department at Middle East Technical University in 1976. He completed his Master′s degree with a thesis "Extra Murals" at the Architecture Department of Middle East Technical University in 1980. In 1976-1980, he designed many posters, brochures and magazine covers for various institutions such as the Chamber of Architects, TMMOB, Contemporary State Culture Center and Köy-Koop. In 1982-1983 Aysan founded "Dost Sanat Ortamı" (Friend and Art Platform) in Ankara where he held contemporary art exhibitions. His first solo installation exhibition was held at the Siyah Beyaz Art Gallery in Ankara in 1985. Since then Aysan has held many solo exhibitions in Ankara and Istanbul. He has also participated in various group exhibitions in Turkey. He received his first award with the work “Yalnızım” (I am lonely) in a contemporary art competition, organized by the Istanbul Art Festival in 1985. Since 1998 Aysan has taught "Layout and Production" and "Applied Layout" at the Faculty of Communication of Bilgi University. He published a book entitled "68 Afişleri" (Istanbul: Metis publications, 2008). Aysan currently continues his work in Istanbul.
