Prof. Güler Ertan was born in Balıkesir in 1940. She graduated from the Department of Graphic Arts at the State Academy of Applied and Fine Arts in 1963. In the next year, she started working as an assistant at her alma mater. In 1978, she served as a committee member, which founded the Photography Department at Mimar Sinan University. In 1977, she published the book “Çağdaş Fotoğraf Sanatı”. Since 1978, Ertan has served as a lecturer, department chair and dean at several universities, such as Mimar Sinan University (1978-1986), the State Academy of Applied and Fine Arts (1979-1983), Marmara University (1995-2002), Haliç University(2004-2009), and Istanbul Culture University (2009-2010). Currently, she serves as a dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Istanbul Arel University. In 1984, she completed her doctorate, proficiency in arts at the Department of Graphic Arts of Marmara University. Ertan received her Associate Professorship at Marmara University in 1986, and Professorship in 1993. She has participated in numerous national and international symposiums and group exhibitions. She has received many awards for her photographs. Her articles on photography have been published in many magazines including “Türkiyemiz”, “Gösteri”, and “Türkiye Yazılar”. Ertan has published 6 books: “Fotoğraf Terimler Sözlüğü” (1994), “Açıklamalı Fotoğraf Terimleri Sözlüğü” (2004), “Türk Fotoğrafında 1960 Sonrası" (2005), “Türk Fotoğrafçıları Kütüphanesi 16 / Güler Ertan” (2005), “Yaşamda Kadın” (2007), and “Dünden Bugüne Fotoğraf” (2009). She is the founder of FOTOS.
