Gülizar Çepoğlu was born and grew up in Istanbul. She studied graphic design in London and graduated from the London College of Communication, University of Arts London in 1983. She completed her master’s degree (2001) and doctoral degree (2007) at her alma mater. Between 1983 and 1985, she worked as a senior designer and art director at RPM advertising agency. She worked as an art director at Güneş newspaper alongside the editor Metin Münir (1989-1990), at Cornucopia magazine (1991-1992), and at Beymen Status magazine with the editor Ömer Madra. In 1994, she set up her own studio specializing in editorial design working on magazine, newspaper, book and catalogue design. Her articles and works have been published in many international art and design books and magazines. Çepoğlu developed and taught graphic design course as a senior tutor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Marmara University. She was instrumental in a successful educational collaboration between London College of Printing and Marmara University. Çepoğlu has organized a large design event and negotiated funding from the British Council, media, and multinational companies. She has been awarded for her projects and works by various institutions and universities. Between 2009 and 2010, she taught at the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham. Since 2000, Çepoğlu has served as an associate lecturer at the London College of Communication, School of Media and Design in London. She is a member of CEEI (Centre d′étude de l′écriture et de l′image, Universite Paris Diderot - PARIS 7), the University of the Arts London Members Association, the Turkish Society of Graphic Designers (GMK), and The Typographic Circle.
