Gürol Sözen was born in Konya in 1940. He graduated from the Department of Art History in the Faculty of Literature at Istanbul University. Since 1956, he has published his designs, poems, stories, and essays in many newspapers and magazines such as “Doğan Kardeş”, “Türk Sanatı”, “Varlık”, “Yelken”, “Gelecek”, “Türk Dili”, “Pazar Postası”, and “Yeditepe.” He directed culture and art pages of “Politika” and “Güneş” newspapers for a long time. Between 1964 and 1967, Sözen served as a board member for the TMTF International Youth Festival. He produced cultural and documentary programs for radio and TV including TRT (Turkish Radio and Television). He wrote texts for several multivision shows. Sözen has published books, “Bin Çeşit İstanbul ve Boğaziçi Yalılar” (1989) and “Ege’den Akdeniz’e Mavi Uygarlık” (1995). He had his first exhibition at the Kadıköy Youth Publication Gallery in Istanbul in 1960. Since then, he has participated in many group exhibitions. In 1974, he published the art album “Desen.” From 1987 and 1988, he worked as an advisor for the exhibition “Modern Soviet Painting”, which was exhibited in Istanbul and Ankara. In 1994, Sözen had his solo exhibition at Aksanat, Istanbul. Currently, he continues his work in Istanbul.
