Haşim Nur Gürel

Haşim Nur Gürel was born in Istanbul in 1948. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at Istanbul Technical University. After learning painting between 1959 and 1967, he had his first solo exhibition in 1966. Since then, Gürel has had more than 27 solo exhibitions and has participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. His works can be seen in many public and private collections. Since 1983, he has written art critiques and comments in many art magazines and exhibition catalogues. He has collected his writings and published them as books such as “Salyangoz Satıcılarının Seyir Defteri” (1992), “Portre: Üç Köşeli Görsellik” (1993), “Sığ Sularda Sanat ve Siyaset” (1996), and “Muhayyel Müze” (1998). In 1998, he started the Eczacıbaşı virtual museum online project, and published the sanalmuze.org website in 1999. In 2002, Gürel curated “60 Years 60 artists” exhibition with Levent Çalıkoğlu and Ali Akay on the occasion of 60th anniversary of Eczacıbaşı Holding. With Levent Çalıkoğlu and Ali Akay, Gürel has curated several important exhibitions in the Istanbul Modern Art Museum including “Gözlem-Yorum-Çeşitlilik” (2004), “Kesişen Zamanlar” (2005), “Fikret Mualla Retrospective” (2005), “Modern Deneyimler” (2006), and “Modern Heykel-Bellek ve Ökçek” (2006). He has also served as a member of advisory council in the Tüyap Istanbul Art Fair.
