Prof. Dr. Hüsamettin Koçan

Prof. Dr. Hüsamettin Koçan was born in Bayburt in 1946.  After he graduated from the State Applied Fine Arts School in 1970, he started to work as an assistant at the same school. Koçan, who became a professor at Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Art in 1993, undertook the position of board chairman of the International Fine Arts Association in 1990-1995. He initiated young activities in 1995 and achieved many creative projects to get society together with art. Koçan actualized "Art-Tractor Project", "Art Tent Project". He founded Baksı Culture Art Foundation and established BAKSI Museum and Research Center for Folk Art in Bayburt, where he was born. Koçan undertook the position of dean at Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Art in 1997-2006. He has had over 35 solo exhibitions and 30 awards, including the Honorary Award from the City of Salzburg and the big award from the third Asian Biennale. Prof. Dr. Koçan received the TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Turkey) Honorary award in 2014. Currently he works at his own atelier and teaches at Okan University.
