Hicabi Demirci

Hicabi Demirci was born in Samsun in 1968. He graduated from the Faculty of Letters at Ankara University in 1992. While studying at the university, he drew cartoons and animation works at the animation studio. Demirci has also written scripts for animated cartoons. In 1998 he directed and shot a short animated film entitled "Ufuktaki Ada / The Island on the Horizon," for which he wrote the scripts and prepared the animations. This film was screened in the Nurnberg Film Festival and the Ankara Film Festival. In 2000 Demirci designed a poster of the Istanbul International Short Film Festival. He has provided artworks such as drawing illustrations, planning animations for various agencies in the advertisement sector. Demirci has also written many covers for books and magazines. He has participated in various international caricature competitions and received over 45 awards. In 2016 Demirci, who received 2013 Yunus Nadi Caricature Award, won a 71st Yunus Nadi Caricature Award for "Hukuk Firarda." He also received an award of merit in the 33th Aydın Doğan International Cartoon Competition (2016). He published two cartoon albums Şeytantırnağı /Hangnail (2005) and Hico Karikatürler / Hico Cartoons (2010). Demirci currently continues his work in Istanbul.
