Piyale Madra was born in Ankara in 1958. She finished high school in Ankara. In 1974, she went to France and continued her studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Grenoble. After returning to Turkey, she graduated from the Department of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul. She then spent a year in Stockholm, where she continued with her artwork. When she returned to Istanbul, Madra launched her career as a cartoon artist by creating the comic strip “Picnic”. The "Picnic" first appeared in the Milliyet newspaper in 1982, and then transferred to the Cumhuriyet newspaper where it appeared regularly for 10 years. In 1992, a selection of the "Picnic" was published as a book in both Turkish and English.
Madra drew a new series of cartoons “Adams and Eves” in the Yeni Yüzyıl newspaper in 1994. She then published it in the Radikal newspaper in 1998. Various selections from her “Adams and Eves” series were published in six comic books by Yapı Kredi Publications. Both “Picnic” and “Adams and Eves” were animated and shown on TV such as TRT 1 and NTV.
