Deniz Üster

Deniz Üster was born in Istanbul in 1981. After graduating from the Department of Painting and Drawing at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2005, she continued her master’s degree at the Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design at Sabancı University between 2005 and 2007. To pursue her study, Üster went to England and completed her master’s degree in Fine Arts at Glasgow School of Art in 2010. Since 2004, she has had her solo exhibitions, and has participated in many group exhibitions and workshops in Turkey and England. Her practice often implies processes of transmutation, and draws upon the language of alchemy. She also often draws on what appear to be vaguely familiar rituals and more specific forms that stem from Anatolian Turkish folklore. Üster received success award from the Association of Painting and Sculpture Museums, at Contemporary Artists Istanbul Competition in 2010.
