Esra Carus was born in Istanbul in 1968. She graduated from the Department of Ceramics and Glass at Mimar Sinan University in 1992. Between 1991 and 2008, she worked on graphic design as well as art projects. Carus deals with subjects related to society and politics in her works, which consist of sculptures, paintings and installations. She has had many solo exhibitions and has participated in group exhibitions and fairs in Turkey and abroad. She has received several prizes including the third prize in the İsmail Hakkı Oygar Ceramic Competition (1991), the second prize in the Vedat Ar Ceramic competition (1992) and an award of merit in the Section of Idea Presentation at the National Architecture Awards (2008). Carus is a member and the executive of a social project entitled “The Children of Cihangir”. Currently, she lives and works in Istanbul.
