Songül Boyraz was born in Turkey in 1969. After graduating from the Sculpture Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University in 1994, she pursued her study in sculpture at the Academy of Fine Art in Vienna, where she studied with Michelangelo Pstoletto in 1994-2000. In 2000-2001, she joined the class of Peter Kogler at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.
Since 1992, Boyraz has received many awards and scholarships including the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP), New York (2003) and MAK Center Artist and Architects in Residence Program in Los Angeles (2005). She has also attended many workshops and symposiums including "No (more) image" in Tokyo (2001), “Fremd, Wien, Realgymnasium Landstasse” in Vienna (2007), and "Lob der Vermischung, Salzburger Kunstverein” in Salzburg (2008).
Boyraz has held many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. She currently lives and works in Vienna.
