Jak Baruh was born in Istanbul in 1948. His interest in photography began in high school. He established a “Photography Club” with his friends at the age of 16 and became active in photographic shootings. To study chemical engineering, Baruh went to Switzerland, where he made experiments in film photography. He then moved to London for his master’s degree. When he settled in New York, Baruh became professionally engaged in photography, producing creative works. After spending many years in Europe and the US, he returned to Istanbul. Baruh has created eleven photographic series. His works are multi-layered, often combining the landscape and the portraits of a city. Baruh currently lives and works in Istanbul.
