Kemal Seyhan was born in Kayseri in 1960. After beginning coursework in sociology at Boğaziçi University in 1981, he settled in Vienna, where he studied art history and philosophy at Vienna University from 1985 to 1987. He then studied art under Prof. Adolf Frohner in the Department of Painting and Graphic at Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst between 1987 and 1996. In 1987 Seyhan participated in the first Vienna Art Symposium “Interaktion”. In 1988, he participated in the group exhibition “Reaktionen” in Vienna. Since then, he has participated in many group exhibitions in Salzburg, Vienna and Istanbul. He has also had his solo exhibitions in Vienna, Munich and Istanbul. In addition, Seyhan started working on stage design and designed the stage of “Niemand auf Reisen”, which was directed by Gül Gürses in 1991. In 1993, Seyhan won the award of Province of Vorarlberg in the 23rd Austria Graphic Competition. In 1995, he received a fellowship from the Sussman Foundation. In the next year, he was awarded by the Province of Niederösterreich. After living in Vienna for over 20 years, Seyhan returned back to Turkey in 2004. In 2008, he had his fifth solo exhibitions at ArtSumer Gallery in Istanbul. Currently, he lives and continues his work in Istanbul.
