Kerem Uzel was born in Çorum in 1973. After graduating from Istanbul Technical University, he pursued his photography education and went to New England School of Photography in the US in 1997. In 2000, Uzel was selected to participate in the 13th Barnstorm Eddie Adams Workshop in New York. In 2003, he attended the World Press Photo Workshop in Istanbul. Uzel is one of the co-founders of NAR Photos, an independent photo collective based in Istanbul. In 2006, he contributed to an exhibition and a book project with ten contemporary photographers from Turkey and Armenia, which was the first ever photographic collaboration for the two nations.
Uzel has worked for various famous newspapers, journals, and magazines including Time, Fortune, The Guardian, The Independent, The Times, Stern, Frankfurter Allgemeine, Der Spiegel, Die Zeit, Focus, Financial Times, Le Figaro, Le Monde, L’Equipe, La Vie, Journal Du Dimache, National Geographic, ELLE, WWD, Gourmet, The National, Bloomberg News, GEO, Wall Street Journal, Art+Auction, and Amnesty Int.. He currently lives and works in Istanbul.
