Mehmet Günyeli was born in Istanbul. After finishing Saint Joseph High School, he studied Political Science. He started taking photograph in the 1980s. He has had many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. He has received several awards. He completed his photograph project “The Colors of Earth”. Günyeli is known as being against cultural globalization. In recent years, he has focused on contemporary and conceptual themes. He has two photography books: Viva Cuba Libre (2004, Istanbul) and India (Istanbul, 2006). In 2008 Günyeli was invited to the Prix Pictet Photography Project. His photographs can be seen in the collections of the Istanbul Modern Museum and the Elgiz Contemporary Art Museum in Istanbul.
