Mehmet Güreli was born in Istanbul in 1949. He graduated from the middle division of the Austria Lycee / Sankt Georg and the upper division of Hürriyet College. He studied philosophy at Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature. He started to work at Hürriyet, a national newspaper in 1976. His book "Sıcak Bir Göz", a collection of short stories, was published in 1985. In 1987 he produced a 16 mm film entitled "Vapurlar" (18-min.). In 1988 he released a music cassette with the same name. His second book of short stories, "Alope′nin Odası" was published in 1993. In 1995 "Cihangir′de Bir Gece" was published as a music cassette and CD, and Vapurlar was released in the latter format. In 1999, he released a music cassette and CD, entitled “Yağmur”. He also produced "Necdet Mahfi Ayral" Documentary (44-min.) in 2003 and “Journey to Istanbul from the eyes of World Writers” (63-min.) in 2006.
