Prof. Mehmet Mahir

Prof. Mehmet Mahir was born in Tarsus in 1948. He finished his middle and high school education at Mersin Tevfik Sırrı Gür High School. Between 1973 and 1978, he studied at the Painting School of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. In 1979, Mahir started working as an assistant at his alma mater. He received a doctoral degree (proficiency in arts) (1983), associate professorship (1989), and professorship (1996). Besides painting, Mahir also drew artistic caricatures between 1976 and 1985. In 1976, he received “Barış Newspaper Special Award” from the Chamber of Machine Engineers in the Industrial ‘76 Caricature Competition. In 1977, his caricature was exhibited in the International Caricature Biennial, which was held in Tolentino (Italy), and was accepted into the International Caricature Museum. He was awarded “Public Jury Award” in the International Caricature Competition in Trento (Italy) in 1985. Mahir has had three solo exhibitions in Istanbul. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and foreign countries. His works can be seen in public and private collections in Turkey. Currently, he continues teaching at the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan University.
