Mustafa Ayaz was born in Trabzon in 1938. He graduated from the Department of Painting and Handicraft, Gazi Institute of Education in 1963. He started to work as an assistant at the same Institute in 1966. He was employed at Hacettepe University, the Faculty of Fine Arts between 1985 and 1987. He received his full professorship in 1987 and was appointed as a professor within the same year to the Faculty of Fine Arts of Bilkent University until 1988. He continues his works at his private atelier in Ankara.
He has had over 60 solo exhibitions and won 16 awards including 2006-2007 Year’s Best Artist in Painting from Art Institution (2008). He participated in numerous group exhibitions and biennials in many countries throughout the world such as India, Kuwait, Egypt, Romania, Hungary, Poland, Belgium, France, USA, England, Algeria and Germany. The painter has over 400 works in foreign collections and about 4.000 ones in domestic collections. The artist is now working on his own museum construction, ‘Mustafa Ayaz Museum and Culture Center’, started to be constructed in 2003 and is completely made by the artist’s own finances. In the museum, with 5000 m² use of area, galleries, art studios and an art coffee will be presented. ‘Mustafa Ayaz Museum and Culture Center’, will be ready to opening at the end of 2008 and later thought to be turned into a pious foundation.
