Necmettin Özlü was born in Akçaabat, Trabzon in 1950. He graduated from Karadeniz Technical University in 1972. In the same year, he went to Paris to pursue his studies with a scholarship from the French Government and completed his doctoral degree in 1978. In 1979, he returned to Turkey and started working as a research assistant at Ege University. He served as an Associate Professor at Technical University in Algeria until 1987. Özlü started painting in 1980. He had his first solo exhibition in Algeria in 1985. In 1987, he left his academic career and became a professional painter. Since then, he has continued painting in Brussels, Paris, Rabat, Komotini, and Ankara. Özlü has had 28 solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. His works can be seen in national and international collections, including the collection of Algerian Fine Arts Museum. He is a member of UNESCO International Association of Art.
