Prof. Nevhiz Tanyeli was born in Edirne in 1941. In 1965, she graduated from the Painting Department at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, where she studied with Neşet Günal, Cemal Tollu, and Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu. From 1971 to 1975, Tanyeli studied in Paris; she worked with G. Singier, and learned lithography from Prof. A. Haddad and stained-glass works from Prof. Gireux. After return back to Turkey, Tanyeli served as Head of Department of Teaching and Discipline in the Turkish Ministry of Education in 1976-1978. She was appointed to the position of teacher in the Department of Painting-Working Education at the Istanbul Atatürk Institute of Education (later Marmara University) in 1978. In 1983, she was transferred to Mimar Sinan University, but one year later she continued teaching at the Atatürk Faculty of Education at Marmara University. Tanyeli became an associate professor in 1989 and full professor in 1997. She had her first solo exhibition in Istanbul in 1964. Since then, she has held many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad.
