Ömer Kaleşi was born in Kırcova, Yugoslavia in 1932. In 1956, he moved to Istanbul with his family. In 1959-1969, he studied painting at Bedri Rahmi′s workshop in the Istanul State Academy of Fine Arts. In 1961, he participated in a student festival, held at the Istanbul Municipality Gallery. In 1962, he traveled Anatolia with Ergin Kolbek and Oktay Anılanmert for 5 months. Kaleşi researched art in France, Italy, and Yugoslavia. In 1965, he had his first solo exhibition in Belgrade and Skopje. In the same year, he moved to Paris. In 1973, he exhibited his painting at Salonde Mai in Paris. In 1975, he had his exhibitions in Ankara and Istanbul. In 1981, Kaleşi joined the Contemporary Turkish Art Exhibition, which was organized by UNESCO in Paris. He was one of the artists who were selected to join the Second International Asia-Europe Biennial. Kaleşi currently lives and works in Paris.
