Dr. Osman Ürper was born in Kırkağaç in 1971. He graduated from the Electric Department at Dokuz Eylül University and the Department of Public Administration in the Economic Faculty at Anadolu University. He completed his master’s degree on photography at the Institute of Fine Arts of Marmara University. He then completed his doctoral degree in the Department of Advertising and Publicity of the Institute of Social Science at Marmara University.
Ürper started photography in 1992. He is a member of the Association of Photographic Art. He served on the administrative board of the Association of Photographic Art between 1995 and 1997. In 1999-2001, he organized many photographic activities such as exhibitions, shows and talks in the Communication Art Gallery, which belongs to the Faculty of Communication at Gazi University. Ürper served on the organization committee of the 3rd and 4th Ankara Photographic Days, which was organized by the Association of Photographic Art. He also served on the organization committee of the First International Istanbul Photographic Biennial, which was organized by IFSAK. He has attended many seminars and panels on photography. He worked as an editor for the “fotografya.net” magazine, which was one of the first internet publications in Turkey.
Currently, Ürper serves on the Faculty of Communication at Maltepe University, and researches photographic history in Turkey and photographic publications. He prepared the TV program “Aydınlık Oda”, related to digital photography, for Technology Television. Ürper has taken photographs on different subjects such as state arts, underwater, nature, human and daily life. He has also prepared slide shows including “Avrupa’dan İzlenimler”, “Kaçkarlar’da Trans”, “Sonbahar Coşkusu”, “Nocturn”, “Paylaştığım Anlar”, “Mardin’in Sihrine Yolculuk” and “Dans Fotoğrafları”, and showed them in different cities in Turkey.
Ürper published his article on dance photographs and photography in the book of “Dans Daima”. In addition, he has given seminar and workshops on this subject in many locations such as the Middle East Technical Unversity Modern Dance Days, International Tünel Art Festival and Ege University Dance Festival. His photographs have been used as posters of the State Opera and Ballet and the Group of Modern Dance. In 2003, Ürper had his first solo exhibition “Arkayüz” in the 3rd Ankara Photographic Days, the 21st International Ankara Music Festival, and Istanbul Vakıfbank Kemal Sunal Art Center. It was also exhibited in the cities of Çanakkale, Adana, Mersin and Edirne. His second solo exhibition “Nefis Nefs” was also exhibited in different cities such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. He also had a documentary photographic exhibition “Anadolu’nun Renkleri”.
