Aysun Berktay Özmen was born in Kocaeli in 1952. She graduated from the Painting Department at the State Academy of Applied Fine Arts (today’s Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts) in 1976. Özmen has held solo exhibitions and participated in several group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. In 1985-2005 she worked as an art teacher at various schools. She has also illustrated animals in her children books.
Özmen received a grand prize for her book “The Gardener Mole and the Termite Kıvırcık” in the Children books category of the 2010 Tudem Literature Awards. In the same year, she won a prize for her book “Ecoist Frog King” in the Gulten Dayıoğlu Illustrated Children’s Book Awards, organized by the Gülten Dayıoğlu Literature Foundation for CHildren and Youth. Özmen currently continues her artworks and nature – animal depictions in her house / studio in Iznik where she lives with her husband.
