Prof. Dr. Basri Erdem was born in Akçaköy, Lüleburgaz in 1948. He completed a painting seminar at Istanbul Primary Teachers Institute. From 1970 to 1974, he undertook the duties of art teacher at the Urfa School of Education for Girls. In 1974, he passed the Ministry of Education examination and was appointed a lecturer in Graphics at the Art Department of the Atatürk Educational Institute in Istanbul. He was appointed to a post in the Painting Department of the Atatürk School of Further Education from 1980 to 1982. In 1983, he began his academic career and was attached to Marmara University becoming assistant professor in 1987. Since 1970, he has participated in more than 100 joint and solo exhibitions. Furthermore, his works have been shown at artistic events in Graz in Austria, Drama in Greece, Kişinev in Moldova, Paris in France, Nurnberg in Germany, Lefkoşa and Mogosa in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Since 2000, he has utilized lithographs and engravings from his own collection of fine prints by professional artists in lecturers on technique at 12 universities which offer Art Education. He worked to set up the Museum of Contemporary Art at Trakya University in Edirne and sat on juries of many competitions and museums in national and international countries. He currently lectures in Işık University, Faculty of the Fine Arts.
